Obama's Own Critical Attitude Toward Government-Mandated Health Insurance

“[Hillary Clinton would] have the government force that every individual buy insurance and I don’t have such a mandate because I don’t think the problem is that people don’t want health insurance, it’s that they can’t afford it. I focus more on lowering costs.” – Barack Obama
02/28/2008 (2008 campaign interview with Ellen DeGeneres)

The following are some images captured from the Obama campaign from early 2008 attacking his then opponent Hillary Clinton and the notion of having the federal government force people to purchase health care coverage.  In a nutshell, he seemed quite opposed to the idea, citing the belief that it would punish people who may not be able to afford insurance, suggesting that his focus would be to make it more affordable.

As seems the case with virtually every position, Obama the president has a different agenda than Obama the candidate.  Why hasn’t the president spoken out against mandatory health care coverage and simply says that this is the wrong approach, as he seemed so sure of during the campaign?  In the quote above, Obama himself says that he won’t force people into a program but instead his focus will be on lowering costs.

Understand this:  during the campaign – last year – he saw a contradiction between government mandates and affordability.  Today we should be questioning what his intentions are.  Are they still to lower costs and make it affordable for all or is it to get as many Americans under the heavy thumb of government as possible?  And if he rejected mandates in the past because they didn’t address the affordability issue, then is that no longer his concern?

  • Reading the Obama quote again, I missed just how arrogant he really sounded there in a statement that about sums of the arrogance of the Left in general:

…I don’t have such a mandate because I don’t think the problem is that people don’t want health insurance…

As often with the Left, they know best and they think government is the entity that will mercifully enforce what’s best onto an ignorant population. Basically what Obama says here is that he doesn’t support a mandate because he does not believe that people don’t want insurance. Meaning that if he thought people wouldn’t willfully sign up for it, especially after he waves his magic wand and makes it so everyone can afford it, then he would be all for using government to force those people into the government system!

We’re all forced to pay taxes in some way or another, but this is a whole new world when we’re forced to accept a government service that we may not want!

This is truly frightening stuff that isn’t getting near the attention and scrutiny it deserves, which demonstrates not only a fascist tendency on the part of the entire Democrat side of the federal government, but compliance and basically betrayal by the press who are supposed to be working on behalf of the citizens and keeping government transparent and exposed when it is threatening our very freedoms.

I hope the lapdog media holds on tight to the First Amendment because the Obama Administration and the Democratic leadership are giving too many signs that indicate that a government restructuring and redefinition of mainstream media isn’t so far away nor that difficult to accept as a possibility of things to come.

  • Oh this is so good! Why isn’t talk radio over all of this? Why aren’t the Repubs in Congress and in the Senate replaying these sound bites for the American public to hear???

OttO, excellent work here. You need to pelt fox news affiliates with this article.

  • Thanks. The kicker is just this past weekend this coward-in-chief (did I mention how I officially hate him?) was asked about this and he tentatively endorsed a fine but wouldn’t comment on jail enforcement. His non-answer amounted to “I think the American people have bigger concerns than this”. Read that again.

I thought the long, national nightmare was supposed to be ending, not just beginning!

These images and Ellen quotes were actually sent to me by a co-worker, not sure if this was from a brochure or a tv ad, but it actually looks familar.

Fantastic job, OttO!! This needs to be all over the main stream. We can only hope that one day the main stream will stop drinking the Obama Kool-Aid and realize what a socialist pig this guy truly is.

Thanks – sorry this didn’t post right away, it was kicked into a pending queue for some reason, but you should be good to post now.

Man! I know some pigs and they would not appreciate the comparison…
