OttO Bio

What others have had to say about The OttO Show (sic in all cases)…

“I would also add — a large portion of my criticism was leveled at people like Bodhi, and OTTO — who rushed in to congratulate without even a hint of skepticism…or that OttO and Bodhi1 didn’t learn to be a little more careful about reserving judgement on breaking stories or accusations that they want to be true?” - BRIAN FORD 05/24/07

[my actual ‘hints of skepticism’ that he missed - outside of this I actually had very little to say directly about the perceived scandal]:
“If this admission rings true…”
“if true of course”
“If this is put to rest, the ’swiftboating’ will stop tonight.”
“…unconfirmed allegations that are being looked into.”

“GoReporter has a very engaging conversational style, Otto uses powerful persuasive structures and U.B. evokes shades of Dennis Leary to me. All are excellent writers. I disagree strongly with what they have to say, not the style in which they say it.” - KILLFILE 11/25/06

“I know what you mean about the difficulties of establishing satirical intent or no…I initally thought that Otto Show was hilarious! …then one day I realised he was probably serious….took all the fun away for me.” - SARCOPHILUS

“I’m glad you said it (i was just thinking it, and thought it might me insulting to say…)” -GREY WOLF
11/25/06

“And I’m done. wmo, welcome to a place next to Otto, Keld, and Havok on my ignore list.” -ADIPICACID 06/06/07

“I virtually never (and I qualify it this much only because I don’t recall ever reporting Otto, but I’ve been involved in thousands of threads in my time here) report Otto who often resorts to a clever turn of phrase to make a point in an argument with me.” - SPIFFIE 07/27/07

“I got on Otto’s case pretty strongly over his characterization of Franklin Roosevelt as a Chickenhawk and his (in my professional opinion) misrepresentation of the events leading up to WWII as a case of cowardice and a shirking of duty in the face of the Nazi regime…” - KILLFILE 07/12/06

“This is the lesson of Iraq which the Otto/Bush school just doesn’t get.” - OLUSEYE BASSIR 07/13/06

“Oh, I apologize. The “Saddam sympathizer” phrase was Otto, not Koozebane. I mix them up because they both make the same kind of argument all the time. “You don’t agree with this one point, so you must also be a Saddam-loving, Bush-hating, anti-Semitic, anti-American liberal”. That kind of “logic”.” - ADAM KEMP 12/31/06

“but kooze- otto is a conservative HERO here on the vine.. you don’t want to be just like him?” - TSCHRECK 01/01/07

“And, while Otto is right that people are unreasonable in expecting candidates to represent them perfectly, it is better when they feel they’re candidates represent them better.” -IGNOBLUS 11/03/06

“I needed a vacation, I grew tired of throwing crap against the wall, got exhausted from the never ending battles with the likes of Otto or Bohdi. No offense there, I actually respect the both of you.” - THEPEF 04/19/07

“Later oTto, this is the only post you will see from me. Since you fail on a regular basis to provide any facts for anything you post. Personally I am tired of your flame bait.” - THEPEF 10/13/06

“The transparency bill for one, energy independence measures, fuel economy reform act, need I go on Otto, since I believe you and otto are the same person.” - THEPEF 10/22/06 [a response to The Observer (who is in fact, not I)]

“I expect to see OTTO writing an article about this in the next three or four days, and I expect that he’ll latch onto the same thing that you’ve latched onto — and it will be just as wrong then as it is now.” - BRIAN FORD 11/29/06

“there is no effort made to debate, and it appears that she cares little about the comments made by others.. i’d have an entirely different point of view for otto or the kevins. they don’t just poop in the corner and run, leaving it for someone else to smell. they have the stones to stand up for their beliefs and opinions and will go toe to toe. in that situation, someone at least has the opportunity to get smarter.” - TSCHRECK 02/02/07

“Someone has political blinders. Is it possible to read “Looney Tunes”…? I think so after reading this opinion piece.” - CURRENTSHADES 10/04/06

“The two major things I have taken issue with in this discussion though has been ‘outsiders’ voicing their opinion with no real reference by which to frame them and this push to turn, as The OttO Show put it, the military into some sort of left-wing social experiment.” -JMACK02 – 07/23/07

“It does indeed seem that Otto is afraid of strong, intelligent women. Bush is too.” -05/30/07 SPRYDLE

JASON FORD: If you’re looking for disagreement, go to any article that OttO writes. He attracts arguments very easily.

SYNTHESIS: Agreed. I think each of us could come up with at least three or four or six people that are controversy magnets.

“I’m waiting for “The Otto Show” to attack you!” - eSANTIAGO

“Does it really matter what screenname The Man is logged in under? He’s too much of a coward to come here anyway. ;) ” - MYKOLA BILOKONSKY
06/23/06

“I’ve listened to some excerpts, but Otto once made it clear to me that unless you listen to the entire show, you can’t claim to know what Limbow said. Whole show? That just ain’t gonna happen.” - BRAD FARRIS 05/24/07

“I believe ‘the otto show’ said it best when he said if something can be killed than it must already be alive and since the definition of abortion is the killing of a fetus, it must already be alive and in human form.” - LONGCAT 06/14/07

“During the height of the Imus imbroglio, four of my group wrote substantive articles about it, me, jazzman, lisaed and wmolaw and every single oneof them was better than every single one of the original articles on that subject produced by old Viners, better than killfile’s boring and predictable crap (which was anticpated by jazzman anyway, and far more authoritative), better than firsty’s pointless ramble, better than the OttO Show’s compendium of Limbaugh talking points.” - JFXGILLIS 04/24/07

“…here is an excerpt from Otto’s recent article about 9/11 Truthers:

People who latch on to this are, in my humble opinion, the worst of the worst. They are deranged, dangerous, pathetic losers…I try to discourage people from even entertaining these fools and legitimizing their existence by taking their delusions seriously.

My question is, how does that compare to the hostility and verbal abuse you said you’ve suffered from “tuthers”?” - MORWYND 05/18/07

“And as much as I am loathe to agree with Otto, I have to say that the truthers who are the squeaky wheels and the face of the group are dangerous and delusional..” -THEJONESGIRL 05/18/07

“I’d vote for The OttO Show as President, so long as Bodhi1 is the VP and I get to be the Secretary of Defense. We will wall the American/Canadian border by golly!” - JONATHAN D. MILLER 07/30/07

“The Otto Show was doing fine until I got to this part. Otto was making a believer out of me. Everything said was understandable, convincing and well authored. Then……” -OLDFOGEY 09/19/06

“…No hate. No mean-spiritedness. No mudslinging. Debate, sure. Confrontation, sure. Is that in itself a bad thing? Now, it does occasionally go to the extreme of either end (PopulistParty, kevinb66, The Otto Show), and that tends to generate a higher level of controversy and what one might call bickering, but I think, by and large, that represents the minority of Newsvine discussions.” - DANNY MCGEE 12/20/06

“i listen to glenn beck, sometimes, too. it’s very helpful, because i get to skim over responses or articles from right-wing parrots who simply repeat what they heard on the radio. saves time, and listening to beck’s head explode while he tries to comprehend, say, gender politics, is much more entertaining than suffering through one of otto’s articles. for example.” - FIRSTY 05/16/07

“Still, I can say with a great deal of conviction that the stuff I spend the most time on is what gets 11 votes while the stuff I toss off in 45 minutes because I’m angry about something GoReporter or Otto wrote gets 75.” - KILLFILE 01/01/07

“This article is partly a response to a challenge from The OttO Show to present a clear condemnation of an enemy to the USA in the “war against terror”.” - PLANETARY GOVERNOR 12/26/06

“Drop the partisan bull@!$%#. This isn’t the United States congress, and it shouldn’t be. Killfile is not “the left”, he’s just Killfile. Otto is not “the right”, he’s just Otto. If the only thing you can write about day after day is how much liberals or conservatives suck, then find a different hobby.” - STACY MALBON 12/20/06

“In another recent discussion someone (OttO) claimed that it is an “old wives tale”- a political myth- that anyone on the right has questioned the patriotism of anti-war viewpoints.” - BADKUNGFU 07/16/07

“try this game — listen to glenn beck on the radio in the morning and then check out the next 24 hrs of postings from morons like bodhi and otto. word for word.” - FIRSTY 07/12/07

“Disagreeable as they may be, Bodhi and Otto are definitely not idiots.” - PAUL WILLIAM TENNY 07/12/07

“I’m always impressed when someone chooses a set of facts and uses them to turn the truth on its head, and then is able to maintain a straight face. It’s what keeps me coming back to this column. Some other people, too, I’ll wager. Thanks again, Otto – you have no idea how informative this stuff is.” - BRAD FARRIS 05/01/07

[one of my favorites, both for content and for a drive-by attack on me in a complaint about ‘dirty politics’]:

BRIAN FORD: Because I can no longer bring myself to comment on his articles — I will now present a perfect example of dirty politics. The following quote is in reference to a Democrat-controlled congress: Congress will push: anti-war, anti-religion, anti-marriage, anti-life agendas. (I’m also not pointing you to the article I pulled it from, but bonus points to anyone who can guess who said this based on the absurdity of the statement.) This sort of false representation of what people is exactly the sort of thing that people in MO are dealing with now.

JIM DENT: I didn’t look around but.. sniff…sniff… Hmmm.. has an OttO smell to me…..

“Because inside the very outgoing Otto is a shy person just hoping one day Otto will see who he really is, a quiet person tenative even about raising his hand.” - SCOTT (SCOOP) BUTKI 06/02/07

“Great news guys, very excited to see what this [MSNBC’s aquiring Newsvine] leads too, I think we should make Olbermann and Otto share an office.” - AJS 10/07/07

“I just don’t have time to visit people like Otto (whom I like) for a good old fashioned bout of mud wrestling.” - PAUL WILLIAM TENNY 04/23/07

“Otto show was ridiculing Harry Reid a while back for being a “Metrosexual” as well. I’m not sure if this is a play on OMG TEH GHEY, a play on “not manly enough to be in manly politics”, or if it is centered around this idea to destroy credibility – those that do not stick to their gender roles are strange and not to be trusted.” - STACY MALBON 05/22/07

BRAD FARRIS: Can I also get you, on that improbable occasion, to agree to go over to Otto’s column and leave a comment on his article (you know, the one he’ll write claiming that the Democrats “just left the troops unprotected and unsupplied”) in which you explain the importance and desirability of such a stand? OK, maybe I’m asking too much.

ADAM HOBSON: Yeah, after my experiences today , I’m not sure I want to go back.05/25/07

“Had to have both sides of the aisle represented. killfile; lefty; check. OttO: righty; check.” -JFXGILLIS 08/20/07

“I’ll admit, that I used to think OTTO was flamebait and a bit of a troll. He’s still here, he tends to respond well and to try and curb the most heated of responses to his commentary. So, I still think he’s wrong about just about everything he writes and I think he DOES intentionally write content that will piss people off into making irrational comments — but I do think he believes what he says, wrong as it is. :) And, he’s still here — despite a pretty strong opposition to his thought process from those of us on the left and (even) some of the more moderate thinkers.” - BRIAN FORD 06/23/07

“It makes your [Adam Hobson] writing look much more like a politically motivated hit piece than like a sincere expression of your concern about the issue. I mean, you didn’t by any chance collaborate with Otto on this one, did you?” - BRAD FARRIS 05/25/07

“Shockingly perhaps, I agree with OttO on several points.” - PAMELA DREW 04/13/07

“The Otto Show – Come for the inflammatory debate, stay for the nonsensical backpedaling.” - STACY MALBON 11/30/06

“Ah my friend, this portends much in sparing portents in the future…Until then, a jigger of Scotch to you.” - FOREST BROWNE 11/22/06
