Thoughts about Rush Limbaugh and Dirty Tricks

Today is Sunday. Normally, I will watch two or three NFL games. Today I will just watch just one, the home team’s. I am doing this because I am still disgusted about the UNFAIR attacks on Rush Limbaugh. Rush is a private citizen and he is entitled to own a NFL team. He wasn’t even going to be a major owner.

Is Rush “divisive?” No more than Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. But in this PC world, only Conservatives are divisive. “Divisive” just means you don’t agree with the Left. That’s not against the law, as a matter of fact, the Constitution allows you to be divisive. Good thing for Barack, Nancy and Harry.

Also enshrined in the Constitution is free speech, however free speech is not totally free. You can not yet “Fire!” in a crowded movie theater when there is not fire, nor is slander or libel protected speech. Moreover, in our political discourse, one would hope we could have honest political discourse. Which brings me back to Rush.

Publishing false quotes about a man and disseminating them as real, is a political dirty trick. I don’t even think Nixon did this. If he did, he would have been rightly flailed. For the media to spread these fake quotes is unconscionable. You don’t run a story quoting fake quotes. You fact check before you run them. If I was an 8th grade Journalism teacher, I’d give an “F” to a student that did not check the veracity of quotes. Yet our “professional” news media, notably CNN and MSNBC did not care about the veracity. They had their target.

I don’t care what they say about Rush as long as it is a true fact. And there ARE true facts one can attack Rush on. But those who publish falsehoods and those who recklessly run with them need to be punished.

Also, we have to need to stop overusing the word “Racist.” This word used to have real meaning, now it is a hammer to shut people up. A racist is someone who beliefs that some races are superior and inferior to others. Rush is not a racist. Did he make a racist remark as Jeff Christie circa 1972? Yes, as a 21 year old punk. A forgivable offense, given the impropriety that comes with youth. This is a remark that I wish Rush never made, but a remark or a joke does not make one a racist.

I’m a little bit younger than Rush, and growing up, we had ethnic jokes in school. No group was unscathed, and we all got along. I got my best Blacks jokes from the Blacks, my best Jew jokes from the Jews, etc. We all were not racists, we were friends, and we knew what genuine racism was. It was the segregationists, who yelled “Segregation today, segregation tomorrow and segregation forever!” It was the Georgia governor that used to chase Blacks out of his restaurant with an axe.

What has happened in recent years, the cry of racism has become so virulent, that we are afraid to discuss race, for fear of being labeled a racist. These cries undoubtedly come from the Left. This hurts our country because honest discussion, and real problem solving about racial problems or problems in racial communities. So these problems linger. But hey, why should the Left solve problems, when calling people “racist” gives them power?

The power to deny a man part ownership of a football, not for be a racist, but for being a political force against the Left. And for the Left, the end justifies the means. (Hmmm?, where have I read that before?) even if it means dirty tricks.

These dirty tricks are not just limited to attacks on Rush. They are part and parcel of media manipulation. It works this way:

An advocate for government run health care-a Left wing position- will publish a study showing 45 million people are without health insurance. It will omit facts that would lessen support for the position. It will not mention that a sizable amount of the those people are illegal aliens–a good number who just showed up in our country recently and have better access to medical care than they did in their former country, or don’t mention that there are millions of people who can afford health insurance, but rather spent their money on non-essentials. By leaving out these facts, the “sob story” factor is increased. The problem is enlarged beyond reality. Then President Obama will say will make a speech saying, “Studies show 45 million people lack health insurance.” The manufactured crisis to the rescue!

So today, I am giving up a lot of football. And I will not totally give it up for Rush. But I will send the NFL a message, my message. Be bullied by dirty tricks and pay for it.

Oh, and I will never watch the Sunday night game as long as the very divisive Keith Olbermann is on. If the home team is playing, I’ll turn on the radio…

  • Great Article, I agree 100%. It is remarkable to me that these lies where never fact checked and where assumed true. It proves much of the MSM is grinding the ax of the left and Democrats. If Fox News had ran a story such as this with a left wing darling than these same lefties supporting the lies would be up in arms and crying their eyes out. But instead we have this a Conservative decides to buy into an NFL franchise and is chased off by lies and slander and most Liberals are cool with it. This is all just more proof that the dishonest and crooked are in fact the liberals. Thanks for the article as I said I agree 100% with it.

  • Yeah, the White House can criticize FOX for having an agenda, but CNN etc. are just our friendly, trustworthy news sources. If only FOX had made up some quotes and attributed them to Rush, then they too would be in the good graces of the Obama Administration.

It’s funny but stuff like this I would think helps FOX. Many Americans realize the dangers of having a media echo chamber for the president. This sets FOX a part and makes them more needed and valuable then ever. Meanwhile Rick Sanchez and Olbermann etc… why do we need them? To tell us how loved the Obamas are?

    Whatever…

  • Otto,

It helps Rush. I rarely listen to Rush, but whenever he’s unfairly attacked, I tune him in.

Also, Rush is a healthy distraction for the Democrats. Oil prices are at the high for the year, the dollar is at a record low, Harry Reid admits the health care bill will top $2T; and these stories are buried due to outrage against Rush Limbaugh.

  • Observer, well written article. It inspired me to find an NFL Team owner who has done far-far more damage than words twisted out of context. Within two minutes I discovered Miami Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga who founded Waste Management Inc., a company that is responsible for dumping chemicals and bio-waste connected to birth defects in Central California, and elsewhere throughout the country. This company is ‘legally’ dumping tons of hazardous waste into the Kettleman Hills (Sacramento’s appointed State Toilet) and plans to expand the plant filling it with radioactive waste. Meanwhile, CA government officials are turning a blind eye to the spike in birth defects. And get this, the local residents of Kettleman City overwhelmingly protested Waste Managements plant expansion only to be overruled by the County.
And where are the liberal environmentalist on this issue? Busy scrambling to clean up precious “wealthy” Simi Valley to ship radioactive waste to ‘Poor” Kettleman residents. Liberals in action: http://www.hanfordsentinel.com/articles/2009/10/19/news/doc4adc9f5eac66f150465910.txt

All thanks to one greedy guy (aka NFL Team owner) who has gleaned hundreds of millions of dollars in WMI contracts needed to buy off politicians in order to ‘legally’ pollute our populated Valley and cripple our kids. Proving your point, virulent cries of racism drown out the real problems people create.

Which leaves me thinking: Since when does a majority of city residents, who turned out in protest, represent a minority? I believe our Forefathers called that ‘taxation without representation’.
